Charting the Course for Cell Development: Pioneering Industrial Strategies

Wednesday, June 19, 2024, 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Messe München Hall A2, Booth A2.409

The technology for wafer, cell, and module production is continuously advancing. Currently, silicon-based solar modules hold approximately 97 percent of the global market share. While the passivated emitter and rear cell concept (PERC) remains prevalent, there is a notable shift towards tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon), expected to lead in terms of market share by the end of 2024, alongside silicon heterojunction (SHJ), and interdigitated back contact (IBC) cells. The transition to these technologies is fast, for which innovative cell manufacturing approaches are considered.European machine manufacturers are at the forefront of providing solutions to the global market. Their cutting-edge equipment is designed to facilitate the high-quality and efficient production of solar cells. In this session, machine and equipment suppliers, together with European cell manufacturers, will discuss the current state-of-the-art production technology and future trends in the post-TW market.

Waking a Sleeping Giant: Commercial PV Systems ( in German)

Friday, June 21, 2024, 12:00 pm - 01:00 pm

Messe München Hall A3, Booth A3.150

Large commercial rooftops are often flat roofs, which are ideal for generating solar energy. The generated solar power can be a viable source to cover the building's electricity demands. It can also be used to cool and heat the building and charge vehicles. To make the most of PV in commerce, it is important to store the electricity. This session will provide an overview of the latest developments in PV, storage systems and sector coupling in the commercial sector. The latest storage technologies and the trend towards glass-glass modules will be discussed. You will also learn how to optimize consumption for cooling, thermal processes and charging e-vehicles. The use of heat pumps to supply commercial buildings with heat, air conditioning and electricity will also be explored in detail in this session.

Towards a Circular PV Industry: Strategies and Innovations in PV Circularity

Friday, June 21, 2024, 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Messe München Hall A2, Booth A2.409

The rapid growth of photovoltaic (PV) technology has led to significant advancements in renewable energy production. However, with this growth comes the challenge of managing the end-of-life of PV panels and ensuring the circularity of materials. Current PV modules on the market are not designed for circularity (meaning easy to disassemble, repair, refurbish, and recycle). They cannot be "re-opened" and the only way for recycling is through destructive processes such as shredding. The irreversible design severely limits repair/ refurbish potentials, as well as the recovery of valuable materials. Despite the advancements in technological research, there is currently a clear lack of business incentives for manufacturers to implement design-for-circularity. This session aims to explore strategies and innovations in PV circularity, focusing on PV module design for circularity and the state-of-art PV recycling solutions.
